Booktok and breaking through anxiety.

Social media has always been somewhat of a challenge for me. I am socially awkward, and I am terrified of saying the wrong thing or being judged. Add in my ADHD and worries over interrupting in person and I often find myself paralyzed by most social situations, even on social media. I like most people, find escape in books and books have allowed me comfort and acceptance that I often don’t find in the real world.
I first started my public social media posting about books on Instagram and I have never really wanted to do anything more than share the books I was reading and tell people if I enjoyed them or not. I spent years lurking before braving the waters, and then it took me even longer to venture on to Booktok.
I finally started posting on Booktok in Nov of 2024 and since then I have had an on again off again relationship with it. I didn’t realize when starting out that people could simply download and reupload your videos and do whatever they liked with it. After experiencing that at the end of 2024, I had to step away from making any of the content I wanted to because of my anxiety and slowly I have been working through it and posting here and there.
I have never wanted to make being on social media a full-time job, but I do love sharing my reviews. So that has led me to create this blog, as an opportunity to share my opinions on the books I have read, while I slowly work on garnering more confidence as navigate social media platforms that involve video content.
I think this is the perfect middle ground as I feel out what my goals are, and I endeavor to engage more and create more authentic and meaningful content. I hope that you will join me on this journey and find some interesting books to read along the way.
XOXO
